My Motto: Equality, Justice, Socialism
I’m Social Justice Priest, or SJP for short (he/him).
My title is a mockery of the mean-spirited “Social Justice Warrior” label, but it’s also a symbol of my genuine commitment to justice. While I’m not a traditional church priest, I am an ordained minister who has delivered sermons at Unitarian Universalist (UU) churches off and on for over fifteen years.
I’ve been talking politics for almost thirty years and doing social justice work for over twenty. I’m a proud Black leftist. My Blackness informs my leftism, and my leftism informs my religious beliefs. Racial justice and economic justice are inextricably linked—especially in the West. I believe unequivocally that Black Lives Matter and stand firmly behind the 8th Principle.
Data-Driven Leftism From an MBA
After years of sharing political commentary and memes on social media, I built this Substack for longer, more detailed content. Here I provide left-wing analysis of current events, politics, economics, and social justice, alongside occasional nonfiction book reviews.
My undergrad is in STEM; I have an MBA; and I have certifications in Project Management, Lean Six Sigma, and cybersecurity. While I was worried business school would push me to the right, it did the exact opposite. Studying management, leadership, lean principles, finance, and economics only confirmed a left-wing view of the world. The historical and economic facts are on our side, and I plan to use this space to break down exactly why.
While much of what I write draws on decades of personal experience, I believe in backing up my claims. You can expect hard data and cited sources in my essays. If I’m wrong, I’ll admit it!
